Meeting- 14/3/07

Due to the unavailability of the meeting room, we had to resort to a wednesday night instead. Since the attendance was low, we headed straight into project speeches. They are: Yeh Vin, Aivee, Swea Phin and Swea Ching. All gave a wonderful and entertaining speech.

Then, we had a session of Table Topics. After one round, we gave Swea Phin ‘training’ for the public speaking contest which offers a trip to London. There were open evaluations as everyone gave points on how Swea Phin could improve. Just in case you need them again, Swea Phin, here’s some of it:

1. Establish more eye contact
2. Keep to the topic(Don’t go off-topic)
3. Think in English
4. Facial expression(Don’t smile too much when it’s a serious topic)
5. Think of points out of the box(Impress judges)
6. Greet audience&judges sincerely
7. Keep your speech short
8. Relate by personal experience
9. Do not move right and left

That’s all for the meeting this time. To Swea Phin: I, on behalf of the club, would like to wish you the best of luck for the competition and congratulations on being the first Competent Gavelier in the 1st Malaysian Gavel Club!

Lastly, our Installation Dinner shall be held on 21st April 2007.

Meeting-11/2/07

Here’s another brief report on this meeting.

As usual, the meeting started around 2.45. Surprisingly, we had guests from the Eduvision Fantastic Gavel Club. Our meeting started with the welcoming address by Ee Ping, followed by table topics. Thank you Yee Xin for being a great Table Topics Master!

Then, we had some jokes by Jeffrey. We also had the project sppeches. On this day, they were Yeh Vin, Swea Phin and Ai Vee. All 3 gave an, ahem, interesting speech, with equally interesting titles.

Then there was the awards presentation. Yeh Vin was the Best Speaker, Jer Renn the Best Table Topics and Best Evaluator. There was also a closing address by Ee Ping. The meeting ended with fortune cookie treats!

Youth Leadership Programme 1/12/06 – 3/12/06

Okok, so here’s what happened during the YLP. We gathered at Eduvision Smart Centre at 9am. By we, I mean me, Ee Ping, Ai Vee, Yeh Vin, Swea Phin and Swea Ching. We entered a room and were introduced to the participants. And then, as usual, a surprise from Azmi: We’re each being assigned a mentee, meaning we’re mentors!
So there’s the usual for a YLP: speeches, speeches and more speeches! Of course, it wasn’t boring. Each day, it started at 9 and ended at 5.
The last day was a little special: It was competition day! The participants were certainly nervous. We(parents, staff included) headed to the Wawasan school. The competition began! The mentees certainly gave their best, but in the end, the Best Speaker went to Khoo Xuan Zhi. Loh Jian Lin took 1st Runner-Up ahead of 2nd Runner-Up Kendrick Lee. And the last award, Most Improved, was taken up by Eugene Yap.
All in all, it was a nice experience for both mentors and mentees. Sorry for the really short report! And don’t forget, photos of the YLp can be found at http://new.photos.yahoo.com/azmi_ich/album/576460762385098897#page1

Thanks Azmi for the photos!!
