Speaking of new members, we, the 1st Malaysian Gavel Club is going to have our 3rd Installation Night on the 27th July 2008. Our tentative venue is Summit USJ. And the COOL part is… the theme this year would be – 007 James Bond! So, if you’re interested to be a Gavelier, act fast! Contact us and join us before the installation night so that we can install you as a member of the club as soon as possible.
Meeting started at 2.30pm today. Ai Vee welcomed all the guests and members and called the meeting to order. A brief introduction of the club was given by our club’s counselor, Distinguished Toastmaster, Azmi Shahrin. Then, Gavelier Lee Wei Herng conducted the table topics session where all guests and members were given a chance to speak without any preparations. Guan Sheng and Hui Yee were the best table topics speakers with their speech titles – ‘Something Special about Myself’ and ‘The Birthday Present from Someone Special’ respectively.
*teng teng teng teng* it’s Humour time! =) Toastmaster Dennis Wee and Jia Shyang shared a few jokes and IQ questions with us. All of us were really cracking our heads to get the answers for the tricky IQ questions. All thanks to Jia Shyang. haha.
Then Gavelier Jeffrey delivered his 4th project speech – Obese! Congratulations, Jeff! It was really a good speech. Well done.
Since it’s Father’s Day, we had a little surprise for our Gavel Papa, Azmi! Ai Vee made a ‘Super Azmi’ underwear for him and we wrote down our messages. Happy Father’s Day to all wonderful daddies!

And lastly, thank you Sam! Although our Sergeant-at-Arms wasn’t around during the meeting, she made an effort to bring some refreshments for us. The kuih was nice =)
That’s all for today. We shall meet again on the 29 July 2008. Same time, same place. See you there!

1st Malaysian Gavel Club’s 2nd Installation Night
It’s our time again!
Yeapz, our Installation Night.
The night started as members arrived and awaited the arrival of parents and guests. After all were seated, everyone waited patiently for the arrival of our patron, Dato’ Lee Hwa Beng, the ADUN of Subang Jaya.
Our entrance this year was different compared to last, as we used a sketch instead. It was a entertaining guys versus girls argument. Thankfully, our mentor, DTM Azmi and our club President, Yeoh Ee Ping ’saved’ the day.
The emcees of the day, Yeh Vin and Swea Ching, took charge and invited the Organizing Chairperson, Chuan Ai Vee to give her speech. It was followed by an address by Dato’ Lee. The Night reached its climax when the time for the Installation Ceremony came. Committee members stood on the stage and one by one took the oath. The Sergeant-At-Arms is Chuan Yeh Vin. The next to be installed was Tan Swea Phin as Treasurer. The job of Secretary was held by Tan Swea Ching. Yours truly, Lam Jer Renn was next to be installed as Vice President Public Relations. Low Yee Xin was installed as Vice President Membership. Chuan Ai Vee took the oath for Vice President Education. Finally, came the time. For the installation of the club President. Yeoh Ee Ping was installed as the President for the second year as charter presidents have that privilege.
What would a ceremony be without a speech by the President? Ee Ping delivered her speech confidently and naturally.
Then, there was also the Education Awards. We’re happy to announce that we have 3 Competent Gavelier Communicators, namely Swea Phin, Yeh Vin and Ai Vee.
After dinner, a round of lucky draw was conducted, followed by a poetry recitation by the younger sibling of Yeh Vin and Ai Vee, Xin Vee.
Another lucky draw was conducted and quickly followed by a performance by members. It was a sketch in a sketch, whereby 3 judges were interviewing people for roles for a upcoming movie. Different situations were given, for example, a wife angered by her husband in the kitchen, a guy giving a love letter and roses to a girl he likes, and so on.
After that, audiences were entertained by a game by Toastmaster Francis Yeoh, the famous gamemaster.
A last round of lucky draw was conducted, followed by the closing address by the President before everyone headed home. What a night, eh?
The 1st Malaysian Gavel Club would like to thank all people involved in making this dinner a success, without forgetting the sponsors for the prizes! So a big thank you once again to all of you, and we’ll hope to see you again next year!

The 2nd Installation Night of the 1st Malaysian Gavel Club is now on the 29th of July, 2007, not the 28th. It will be held in Bixby Room, Lake View at 7.00 p.m. The change was to accomodate our guest of honour, Dato Lee Hwa Beng’s schedule. We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Vice President Education – Chuan Ai Vee ~ 016-9682525
Vice President Membership – Low Yee Xin ~ 017-6052133
Meeting- 1/7/07
This meeting, since there were no guests, we discussed about the installation night instead. our Installation Night will be held on the 28th of July, 2007 at Bixby Room, Lake View Club.
We were assigned jobs prior to the night, and also we discussed about our entrance, which I think should be kept secret till that day. We will also be doing a sketch, but you’ll have to attend the dinner to watch it!
Meeting
Ok, sorry for not updating… totally forgotten about it… ok, so anyway, our latest meeting was on the 22nd of April, if I’m not mistaken.
Yee Xin/Ai Vee had been the Acting President as Ee Ping weren’t able to attend. We started with Table Topics. Jokes were not given as no one had prepared any.
Yeh Vin gave a speech about fast food and slow food. His points on why everyone should eat fast food certainly were interesting! Next time you want it but can’t get any, contact Yeh Vin!!
The meeting ended with refreshments, namely pizza and Coke! And it’s all thanks to Yeh Vin!
Meeting- 14/3/07
Due to the unavailability of the meeting room, we had to resort to a wednesday night instead. Since the attendance was low, we headed straight into project speeches. They are: Yeh Vin, Aivee, Swea Phin and Swea Ching. All gave a wonderful and entertaining speech.
Then, we had a session of Table Topics. After one round, we gave Swea Phin ‘training’ for the public speaking contest which offers a trip to London. There were open evaluations as everyone gave points on how Swea Phin could improve. Just in case you need them again, Swea Phin, here’s some of it:
1. Establish more eye contact
2. Keep to the topic(Don’t go off-topic)
3. Think in English
4. Facial expression(Don’t smile too much when it’s a serious topic)
5. Think of points out of the box(Impress judges)
6. Greet audience&judges sincerely
7. Keep your speech short
8. Relate by personal experience
9. Do not move right and left
That’s all for the meeting this time. To Swea Phin: I, on behalf of the club, would like to wish you the best of luck for the competition and congratulations on being the first Competent Gavelier in the 1st Malaysian Gavel Club!
Lastly, our Installation Dinner shall be held on 21st April 2007.
Meeting-11/2/07
Here’s another brief report on this meeting.
As usual, the meeting started around 2.45. Surprisingly, we had guests from the Eduvision Fantastic Gavel Club. Our meeting started with the welcoming address by Ee Ping, followed by table topics. Thank you Yee Xin for being a great Table Topics Master!
Then, we had some jokes by Jeffrey. We also had the project sppeches. On this day, they were Yeh Vin, Swea Phin and Ai Vee. All 3 gave an, ahem, interesting speech, with equally interesting titles.
Then there was the awards presentation. Yeh Vin was the Best Speaker, Jer Renn the Best Table Topics and Best Evaluator. There was also a closing address by Ee Ping. The meeting ended with fortune cookie treats!
Youth Leadership Programme 1/12/06 – 3/12/06
Okok, so here’s what happened during the YLP. We gathered at Eduvision Smart Centre at 9am. By we, I mean me, Ee Ping, Ai Vee, Yeh Vin, Swea Phin and Swea Ching. We entered a room and were introduced to the participants. And then, as usual, a surprise from Azmi: We’re each being assigned a mentee, meaning we’re mentors!
So there’s the usual for a YLP: speeches, speeches and more speeches! Of course, it wasn’t boring. Each day, it started at 9 and ended at 5.
The last day was a little special: It was competition day! The participants were certainly nervous. We(parents, staff included) headed to the Wawasan school. The competition began! The mentees certainly gave their best, but in the end, the Best Speaker went to Khoo Xuan Zhi. Loh Jian Lin took 1st Runner-Up ahead of 2nd Runner-Up Kendrick Lee. And the last award, Most Improved, was taken up by Eugene Yap.
All in all, it was a nice experience for both mentors and mentees. Sorry for the really short report! And don’t forget, photos of the YLp can be found at http://new.photos.yahoo.com/azmi_ich/album/576460762385098897#page1
Thanks Azmi for the photos!!
