Meeting-14/01/07
For today’s meeting, there wasn’t the normal speeches. What the meeting covered is as follows:
1) Reshuffling of Executive Committee
As the first committee’s term has ended, a reshuffling of the committees needs to be done. Ee Ping, President, has graciously accepted Azmi’s(Counsellor) request to remain for one more term. Ai Vee was chosen as the VPE, Yee Xin the VPM, and yours truly, Jer Renn, VPPR. Swea Phin takes over as the treasurer whereas Swea Ching’ll be the incoming Secretary. Yeh Vin will be Sergeant-At-Arms.
2) Invitation of guests
Ee Ping, President, requested all members to inform one of the Committees if he or she is bringing along a guest. She also stressed that a guest’s place as a member is not confirmed as it’s subject to committee’s approval.
3) Activities for the year
For this year, Ee Ping highlighted a few activities, which are a party, a trip, Installation Dinner and a debate or speech contest with two other Gavel Clubs. The trip is most likely to be at Pulau Redang during the June holidays, whereas the Installation Dinner will hopefully be able to be held on April.
4) Friendly debate
Azmi, Counsellor for the club, asked Ee Ping and incoming VPE, Ai Vee to select their teams for a debate. Ee Ping selected Yeh Vin, Joanne and Jer Renn. Ai Vee chose Carmen, Yee Xin, Jeffrey and Leonard. The topic was “Parents must trust their children”. Ee Ping’s team was selected as the ‘parents’ team, Ai Vee’s the ‘children’ team. The debate turned out to be a humorous one, ending with retarded children!
